Our Board of Directors
Chairman, Dortmund
Dr. Raphael v. Hoensbroech
Chairman, Dortmund
Dr. Raphael von Hoensbroech has been the honorary Chairman of the Csilla von Boeselager Foundation since 2007. His main job is as artistic director and managing director of the Konzerthaus Dortmund, where he lives with his wife and five children. He grew up with the founder Csilla von Boeselager for several years during the fall of communism, which meant that he was already intensively involved with the emergency aid for Eastern Europe as a teenager. "As a child, I helped to bag begging letters. Today I can continue Csilla's work in her footsteps."
While studying musicology, philosophy, and debt & copyright law, Raphael developed his own aid project in Poland, after the flooding of the Oder River. After completing his doctorate, he initially worked as a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group for eight years, where he also advised aid organisations such as the United Nations World Food Program and SOS Children's Villages. During this time, he took over the foundation's chairmanship of Csilla's husband. "I consider it a privilege that we have such an effective way of helping people in need with the foundation."
Deputy Chairwoman, Office & Marketing, Arnsberg
Ildikó v. Ketteler-Boeselager
Deputy Chairwoman, Office & Marketing, Arnsberg
Ildikó v. Ketteler-Boeselager has been Deputy Chairwoman of our foundation named after Csilla since 2007 and is the eldest of her two daughters. From an early age familiar with her mother's work and its rapid development, she is the foundation's local representative in Arnsberg - Vosswinkel and is responsible for local campaigns, the office and many areas of public relations. She speaks Hungarian as a second mother tongue and is the communicative link to our Hungarian-speaking partners and projects (Hungary, parts of Romania, Ukraine and Serbia).
Together with her husband, the architect manages the family farm and forestry business in Höllinghofen, the centre of life for the family of seven.
"My mother was strongly motivated to help others because she experienced a similar situation as refugee and through poverty in her youth. Likewise, I probably have a special relationship with people with disabilities and the challenges they face - especially in extreme situations such as poverty and war. Our son Béla lives with the Down-syndrome and our daughter Valentina died as an infant from a rare disease. I feel the pain and concern of parents for their vulnerable children very intensely and would particularly like to help reduce their burden."
Deputy Chairman, Treasurer & Legal, Ascheberg
Michael v. Boeselager
Deputy Chairman, Treasurer & Legal, Ascheberg
Michael v. Boeselager is a founding member of the foundation. His active involvement began after Csilla's death. In 1996, he was elected to the board of directors and has been deputy chairman ever since. As treasurer he is responsible for finances. "My cousin Csilla approached me, a newly qualified lawyer, in 1991 to see if I could help her set up a foundation for her emergency aid projects in Eastern Europe. I greatly admired her incredible commitment before and after the Reunification, and immediately agreed, not realising the dimensions her work would take on."
Michael lives with his wife Mareike (a member of the Advisory Board) and three children near Ascheberg. He practises as a lawyer in Werne. He also runs a forestry business in Sauerland, which he took over from his father in 1990. "In the more than 30 years of our work, we have changed the projects and their locations several times, but Csilla's principles and goals have remained unchanged and we continue to pursue them - and unfortunately the great need of many people in Eastern Europe has also remained, currently of course especially in war-torn Ukraine. It is very encouraging to see that the willingness to help us is also growing in the next generation."
Public Relations, Frankfurt
Ilona v. Boeselager
Public Relations, Frankfurt
Ilona von Boeselager is the second daughter of Dr. Wolfhard and Csilla von Boeselager. She joined the foundation's public relations team in 1999 and took over overall communications from her father in 2007. She had experienced the development of Emergency Support for Eastern Europe from an early age, e.g. sorting clothing donations in the family garage. In the summer of the Peaceful Revolution (1989), Ilona had visited her mother in the camp for thousands of GDR refugees in Budapest. Csilla had set up this camp with Malteser International - virtually overnight. "Our mother believed in the impossible and in God, which gave her work great strength. That still inspires me today."
A stay of several months in Budapest and project trips to Poland and Serbia showed Ilona how poor many old people and children in Eastern Europe still are. "We have a lively, personal dialogue with all our Eastern European project partners and this creates a great deal of trust among our donors. We can work effectively on this basis".
The trained European secretary (Brussels) acquired her journalistic skills through her studies in communication science and in various editorial offices, e.g. at Radio Budapest and the Berliner Zeitung. As a trained systemic coach, Ilona is enthusiastic about working with a wide variety of people, especially in the school and social sector. She lives as a communications consultant in Frankfurt/Main and Berlin.

Johann v. Frankenberg
Projects & sponsors, Schnakenbek
Johann von Frankenberg has been a volunteer on the Board of the Csilla von Boeselager Foundation since 2019, coordinating the area of projects and its sponsors. Previously, he and his wife Katharina volunteered for the foundation's emergency aid projects in Serbia for a period of 10 years. These projects included local care for the elderly, the distribution of warm school meals and the distribution of relief supplies in the Nova Crnja region.
"I have seen a lot of need and poverty in Eastern Europe over the last 15 years. I am happy to be able to make a contribution to alleviating the need through the foundation"
Johann is an entrepreneur by profession and lives with his wife and their two daughters on a small horse farm in Schnakenbek/Schleswig Holstein. Johann studied industrial engineering in Berlin and Ottawa. He then worked for 5 years as a management consultant at Droege & Comp. He took the birth of his first daughter as an opportunity to take extended parental leave, during which the idea of founding his current company Wildglück was born.
"My first intensive contact with Eastern Europe was during a deployment as a soldier in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Our mission was to ensure peace between the population groups. Through my long-standing friendship with Raphael, Ilona and Ildiko, I developed an interest in supporting the region in the longer term. I am grateful to be able to help the region effectively and as unbureaucratically as possible with the help of the Csilla von Boeselager Foundation"

This is made possible by a lot of voluntary work and short, unbureaucratic channels."

Theresia v. Keyserlingk
Project sponsor for Krakow, Lviv & Zaporizhia
Theresia von Keyserlingk has been the godmother of three projects in Poland and Ukraine since 2002. All three projects are run by the Polish Albertine Brothers.
"I consider it a special gift to be able to experience the beneficial emergency aid work of the Albertine Brothers in Krakow, Lviv and Zaporizhia at close quarters. This is only possible thanks to our generous donors, who make our support there possible in the first place!"
She had a close friendship with Csilla von Boeselager for many years, which began in New York in 1969 and only ended with her death in 1994. She is therefore a founding member of both the Hungarian Malteser Caritas Service (UMCD/MMSZ) and the Csilla von Boeselager Foundation. She has been a member of the board from the very beginning and only joined the foundation's advisory board in 2007.

Philipp Francke
Project sponsor for New Dawn (Odessa)
"Philipp, call this number!" Theresa said on the phone. I had met her the night before in a small refugee camp in Chişinău - that was a decisive moment in my life. My name is Philipp Francke, born in Hamburg in 1966 and now a project sponsor and also a member of the CvBS advisory board.
As a member of the Order of St John, I was in charge of an aid convoy at the very beginning of the war in Ukraine and was now on my way back with 8 minibuses full of refugees who had experienced terrible things.
I live with my family (2 daughters) in Brussels, where until recently I worked for an international industry association. I studied Agricultural Business Management in England and my first mission abroad took me to an EU food distribution project in Ukraine, a member state of the CIS.
At the beginning of 2022, I then organised many large aid deliveries to Ukraine for the foundation. All the stages of my varied life seemed at once to have been useful experiences with now useful connections to do the only thing that seemed right to me with the CvBS at my side: helping people affected by the war. On the ground.
NewDawn, the new local implementation partner of CvBS, was able to help many tens of thousands of people to alleviate their suffering and give them hope.

She is also a board member of a children's and youth welfare organisation in Ascheberg with a focus on helping refugees. Katharina von Frankenberg now supports the Csilla von Boeselager Foundation as an advisory board member, having worked with her husband as a volunteer on emergency aid projects in Serbia from 2010 to 2019. These projects included local care for the elderly, the distribution of hot school meals and the distribution of relief supplies in the Nova Crnja region.
"It is exciting to see how the countries in Eastern Europe have set out and are developing massively, but the poverty in rural areas and for socially disadvantaged people is still just as frightening. This motivates me again and again to support the wonderful work of the foundation wholeheartedly."
Katharina now works in the field of personnel consulting, management development and coaching, with a particular expertise in equine-based coaching. She is able to combine her many years of experience in HR consulting and business with the magic of nature and animals. Gisela Mengdehl has been involved in the foundation's work since 1993 and after the death of founder Csilla von Boeselager in 1994, she became an active member of the newly formed board. Initially as a sponsor for the Peçs aid project (Hungary), then from 2004 as a sponsor for Satu Mare (Romania ) She is now still active on the Advisory Board. Together with her husband Georg Mengdehl, who died in 2023, she got to know Csilla von Boeselager in Strasbourg. There, her husband, as the representative of Mez Ag Freiburg, was present at the presentation of the European Human Rights Award of the Association for the Promotion of Business to Csilla von Boeselager. It was shortly after the fall of communism, her husband was about to retire and their four children were grown up. The acceptance speech was groundbreaking for their joint commitment.
"What can we do ourselves to make Europe grow together? How can there be a Europe when living conditions are so different?" were our questions
At the first charity event organised by Osteuropahilfe in 1993 in Freiburg, at which Csilla von Boeselager gave a lecture, an active circle of helpers was formed. To this day, this group makes it possible to provide support and maintain friendly contacts with our foreign partners. The parish of St. Trinity has been involved ever since and our focus today is on supporting the education of disadvantaged children through the Malteser local group in Satu Mare (Romania).
"I would like to continue this work as far as I can, as the children we support are the youth of tomorrow and the adults of the future."

Jost v. Kuczkowski contributes many years of voluntary work in management positions in a religious order and as the director of a paediatric clinic of a family foundation. For him, taking over the management of the Csilla von Boeselager Foundation means the fulfilment of his long-held wish for a meaningful activity as principal occupation.

Finance & Accounting (part-time)
Bernd Jünkering has been working for the Foundation Office since the beginning of the war in Ukraine (March 2022). After many years of voluntary work, such as the food bank in Arnsberg, he received our call for help. The tasks in the financial area, which have increased exponentially since the start of the war, need to be managed.
He spontaneously accepted and is now contributing his lifelong management experience in finance and controlling.
We are delighted that he is supporting us in his retirement with his expertise and life experience.

Alexandra Komyshan
Projects & Database (part-time)
Alexandra Komyshan and her 12-year-old son had to flee Odessa for Germany back in March 2022. After a few detours, she arrived in Arnsberg and immersed herself in her new surroundings and the German language.
As a graduate in literature and a secondary school teacher, she was very well equipped for this, which was now evident in her passing the C1 exam. "There are people who make this world a better place. These are the people who work at the Csilla von Boeselager Foundation, they are extremely sensitive, friendly and caring about the grief of others. These people are a model of humanity and charity. The terrible war forced many people to leave their homes. I am one of those people and fled with my son to Germany in 2022. After I was able to improve my German, I found a great job at the Csilla von Boeselager Foundation. I am grateful for the good fortune of working with people like you."
Her tasks include looking after members and donors as well as project management, for example in handling the transport of donations in kind.
