Help in Hungary
Since the foundation was established, Hungary has always been the focus of our aid. The Hungarian Malteser Caritas Service, which was also founded by Csilla von Boeselager and is still the largest private aid organisation in Eastern Europe, provides emergency aid throughout the country on a daily basis. For this reason, we have currently focussed our work on other Eastern European countries, with the exception of Pécs.
Pécs
In the city of Pécs, in the south of Hungary, there is a very committed Malteser group that looks after disadvantaged people. We have been supporting this group for over 30 years.

Poverty in the centre of Europe
When Csilla came to Hungary in the early 1990s, the humanitarian situation throughout the country was catastrophic. Much has improved over the years. There are basic social services.
But there is still unimaginable poverty in rural areas. Even in the Pécs area, there are still many families, the elderly and the sick who live in unacceptable situations. Damp mud houses, no money for firewood or food in winter are still to be found here in the centre of Europe.
Ambulance for the poor and help for homeless people
The Csilla von Boeselager Stiftung has been supporting the Malteser Group in Pécs since 1993. The "House of Serving Love" hosts an outpatient clinic for poor and legal counselling for disadvantaged people. A volunteer homeless welfare organisation provides essential support for local people.
Csilla House for mentally and physically disabled children
On the outskirts of the city, the "Csilla House" provides day care for mentally and physically disabled children.
The house was build with the help of the Csilla von Boeselager Stiftung. The house also includes a soup kitchen where people are served a meal every day.
Another focus of Malteser International's work is the integration of disadvantaged Roma, who make up a very high proportion of the population in southern Hungary.
