Growing need and the help of the Brothers of Albert
There is great poverty among socially disadvantaged people such as the elderly, disabled people, pensioners, the homeless and newcomers without passports. Since the Russian war of aggression, many refugees have flocked to the city. The need for help of all kinds is constantly increasing. The ever-present threat of a missile attack is very stressful for everyone. The Brothers of Albert are doing all they can to help.
Kitchen for poor and shelter for homeless people in Lviv
The Brothers of Albert run a house with 48 bunk beds for men in need in Lviv. Warm soup with bread and hot sweetened tea is distributed to around 200 people per day. Refugees receive food and hygiene products. They have the opportunity to shower and do their laundry. The Brothers' House is a transshipment centre for aid shipments to Zaporizhia.

Escape and destruction
Hundreds of thousands of people who lost their homes and livelihoods in Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine have fled to Odessa in southern Ukraine. Our project partner New Dawn is providing initial emergency aid with food, medicine, hygiene products and clothing for the refugees.
Emergency aid for displaced people
Since the beginning of the war, internally displaced people, mostly young mothers with children and elderly people, have been provided with everything they need at the New Dawn headquarters (more than 100,000 refugees). It is a first port for people stranded in Odessa some of whom are disorientated and destitute - here they can also find human warmth and comfort.
Fountain construction in Snigurivka
Since the liberation in November 2022, the Csilla von Boeselager Stiftung and its project partner New Dawn have been providing food, hygiene products and drinking water to the needy population of badly damaged Snigurivka. There was no running water for 18 months. The wells were also destroyed. This meant that even the most basic personal hygiene was impossible. In cooperation with the humanitarian organisations and the administrations, a new fountain was drilled, technically equipped and connected to the repaired water network. Here alone, 11,000 people have access to water once more.

Poverty in Zaporizhia
There is widespread poverty among the population of this large heavy industry city. Since February 2022, the situation has worsened drastically for many people. Refugees from the east and south of the country add to the number of people in need. The war front is only about 35 km away. The Brothers of Albert are supporting these people to survive.
Albertines provide emergency aid in Zaporizhia
In the Brothers of Albert's house with 25 bunk beds, men in need find a roof over their heads, clothing and food. The care provided by the Brothers gives back dignity to men and new prospects in life. Since the beginning of the war, the soup kitchen can no longer cope with the influx of needy people. Instead, tinned food, home-baked bread and hygiene products are distributed to up to 1,500 people a day.
Beregovo
Together with the Malteser in Beregovo, we give children with disabilities and from the most difficult backgrounds a future. Since the war, they have also been our Ukrainian bridgehead for the distribution of material donations. They also care for internally displaced persons throughout Transcarpathia.

Help for disadvantaged in Beregovo
Many people in need live in and around Beregovo. These are people with disabilities, but also old people who can not secure a warm meal. The State's financial support is not sufficient to survive.
There are also many Roma families. At home, the children are not properly taught how to take care of themselves, do laundry or cook. Nobody makes sure that their homework is done.
Soup kitchen and childcare: support for those in need in Beregovo
Malteser International runs a soup kitchen in Beregovo. Around 55 poor, old, sick and non-mobile people are provided with hot meals every day. The people live within a 2 kilometre radius of the kitchen and come every day to pick up their meal. It is also important for everyone to have a daily social touchpoint.
There is also an after-school program for approx. 60 children from Roma families who come to Malteser International after school. They receive a meal and are supervised doing their homework. The children are also taught in hygiene, cookery, music and religion.
Survival aid for the poor and elderly in Satu Mare
Malteser International Satu Mare also provides extremely poor families and elderly people in need with essential survival supplies. This ranges from warm food and firewood to medicines, nappies and clothing.
Help for Ukrainian war refugees in Transcarpathia
Due to the war, many Ukrainians have fled from occupied eastern regions of the country to the west of Ukraine. The people have left everything behind in the occupied territories. They have to start a new life in western Ukraine (here Transcarpathia). Often women with children. Men are at war. Malteser International Beregovo is supporting these people with food, medical supplies and clothing - using funds from Csilla von Boeselager Stiftung, among others.
Tireless help: Malteser Beregovo distributes relief supplies in Ukraine
Right at the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Malteser group in Beregovo received very large quantities of relief supplies from Europe and distributed them throughout Ukraine. With tireless voluntary commitment, locals and helpers from all over Europe, received relief supplies arrive at the logistics hub, are stored and sent on their journey to those in need throughout the country. A logistics warehouse was acquired with the help of the Csilla von Boeselager Stiftung, among others. Relief supplies for the affected areas throughout Ukraine are now permanently being handled here.
